How to Download Product Images for Your Ecommerce Listings
Selling on Flipkart and launching your own Shopify store? Here is how to download your own HD product images from Flipkart, use them responsibly, and get your listing photos right.
Many Indian sellers start on a marketplace like Flipkart and later build their own Shopify store or website. At that point a familiar problem appears: the best product photos you have are the ones on your Flipkart listings, but the original files are scattered across old phones, a photographer's email or a cataloguing agency's drive.
This guide explains how to download product images in HD using our free Flipkart image downloader, how to use it responsibly, and what makes listing images work well on any platform.
Why sellers need to download product images
There are several legitimate reasons a business might need images from a product listing:
- Moving your own catalogue to Shopify or your website. You own the photos, but the originals are lost or hard to find, and the marketplace listing is the most complete set you have.
- Keeping a backup. Saving copies of your own listing images in case originals are lost.
- Checking how your images appear. Reviewing the actual image files a marketplace serves for your listings, to compare against what you uploaded.
- Competitor research for reference. Studying how successful listings in your category present products, such as angles, backgrounds, infographics and lifestyle shots, to plan your own photography.
The last point is about learning from other listings, not copying them. That distinction matters a great deal, as the next section explains.
Use images responsibly: copyright and marketplace rules
Product photos are creative work and are protected by copyright. The photographer, the seller who commissioned the shoot or the brand owns them, not whoever can download them. Before using any downloaded image, ask yourself whose it is.
| Situation | Can you reuse the images? |
|---|---|
| Your own listings, photos you shot or paid for | Yes, subject to any agreement with your photographer |
| Brand images you are authorised to use as a reseller | Only within the permission the brand has given |
| Another seller's listing photos | No. Use for reference only, never publish them |
| Competitor images for internal mood boards or planning | Reference only, keep them private and do not publish |
Do not reuse other sellers' copyrighted photos on your store, website, social media or marketplace listings. Apart from being unfair to the person who invested in the shoot, it can lead to copyright complaints, listing takedowns, account penalties and legal trouble. It also makes your products look identical to everyone else's, which is the opposite of what good branding should do.
How to download your product images from Flipkart
Our free Flipkart image downloader downloads HD product images from Flipkart product links. To use it:
- Open your product page on Flipkart and copy its link from the browser address bar or the share option in the app.
- Open the tool. Go to the Flipkart image downloader.
- Paste the product link and run the tool.
- Review the images it finds for that product.
- Download the images you need and save them in a clearly named folder for each product.
- Optimise before uploading elsewhere. Resize if needed and compress with our image compressor before adding them to your website. Shopify optimises images on its own CDN, but uploading sensibly sized files is still good practice.
Organise as you go
If you are moving a full catalogue, create one folder per product named with its SKU, and rename images in order, such as sku-1023-front.jpg, sku-1023-back.jpg. It saves a lot of time when you bulk-upload to Shopify.
Product photography best practices
Whether you reuse your existing images or plan a new shoot, these principles apply across Flipkart, Amazon, Meesho, Shopify and your own website.
The main image
- Use a clean, plain background, usually white or very light grey. Marketplaces often have specific main-image rules, so check the current guidelines for each one.
- Show the product clearly, filling most of the frame, without extra props that could confuse buyers about what is included.
- Keep lighting even, with no harsh shadows or colour casts.
Supporting images
- Multiple angles: front, back, sides and top where relevant.
- Close-ups: fabric texture, stitching, ports, labels or finish.
- Scale: show the product in a hand, on a person or next to a familiar object so buyers understand its size.
- Lifestyle shots: the product in use, for example a kurta being worn or a kitchen tool on a counter.
- Infographic images: key features, dimensions or what is in the box, with text that is readable on a phone screen.
Technical basics
- Shoot at high resolution so buyers can zoom; square images are widely used and display well across platforms.
- Keep colours accurate. Returns caused by "colour different from picture" are common and avoidable.
- Stay consistent across your catalogue: the same background, lighting and framing make a store look professional.
- Use descriptive filenames and alt text on your own site for accessibility and image search.
Moving from a marketplace to your own Shopify store
Marketplace listings follow the marketplace's template. Your own store gives you room to build a brand. When you move images across:
- Rewrite product titles and descriptions for your own customers instead of pasting marketplace copy stuffed with keywords.
- Add a few brand-specific images, such as packaging, your workshop or how the product is made, which marketplace rules may not allow.
- Keep the image order consistent: hero shot first, then angles, details, scale and lifestyle.
- Check every product page on a mobile phone, which is how most of your visitors will shop.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use images from another seller's Flipkart listing on my store?
No. Those images belong to the seller, photographer or brand who created them. You may look at them for reference when planning your own photography, but publishing them without permission can lead to copyright complaints and takedowns.
Are the downloaded images high resolution?
The tool downloads HD product images from the listing, so the result depends on the quality the original seller uploaded. If you need print-quality files, the original camera files are still best.
Do I need to compress images before uploading to Shopify?
Shopify handles image optimisation on its CDN, but uploading reasonably sized files keeps your admin and theme snappy and avoids unnecessarily large originals. Compression matters more on custom websites.
